| A
new year in Church School
The 2002-2003 year in
Church School is promising to be an exciting new beginning in Christian
education at St. Dunstan's. We will offer classes for all ages,
pre-K through adult, following the Episcopal Church's curriculum.
Classes for children and young people will provide for primary,
intermediate, and junior age groups. There will be a seminar/class
for seniors, and a forum for adults. These classes will meet from
9:00 to 9:45 each Sunday.
There will also be Children's
Chapel paralleling part of the 10:00 o'clock service. Younger children
-- up to about age 12 -- will leave the service during the Gospel
hymn. For about 20-25 minutes, children will be led in informal
singing, Bible stories, and liturgical instruction. The children
will then return to the church at the Peace, to share in Holy Communion.
Once a month--and on special days, such as Holy Baptism or Easter
Day -- everyone, including younger children, except those who need
to be in the nursery -- will attend the entire 10:00 service. On
those days, there will be a sermon for children and an effort to
provide music in which the children can participate.
This new plan will meet
several needs: more time to teach and learn; classes for all ages;
and the opportunity for our Church School teachers to attend worship.
We hope also to rotate caring for the nursery -- which will be provided
from 9 until 11:30 each Sunday -- so that no person is in the nursery
more than one Sunday each month.
